The Cohen Center provides Alfred University students with hands-on experience in arts administration, community development, marketing and public relations, all types of design, and management.
The Center exists in a physical sense at 55 North Main Street in Alfred, in a renovated Victorian house that provides gallery space for exhibiting the work of Alfred University alumni, faculty and visiting artists. Students assist in all facets of the exhibitions, from designing the space to preparing promotional materials and acting as docents during the shows.
Through its virtual space the Store the Cohen Center offers additional opportunities for students in arts administration. The web site helps promote the University and the School of Art & Design, and provides opportunities for visitors to purchase selected works of art by alumni and faculty.
Alfred University alumni who wish to show their work through the Cohen Center store are asked to submit proposals and images of their work for consideration. A committee of faculty and staff will select participating artists.
The Cohen Center was created by the generous gift of Michele and Martin Cohen, parents of Adam Cohen, Class of 2003.
The Store at Cohen Center Gallery specializes in featuring work by Alfred University alumni, faculty and visiting artists. This emphasis includes Alfred's commitment to undergraduate students engaging them in gallery management, exhibition design and special events. The Store at Cohen Center offers a unique selection of art representing Alfred artists who have made an indelible contribution to what Alfred is known for today. We are seeking alums worldwide to submit proposals and images of their work for possible representation on this site. A committee of faculty and staff will select the artists.
All proceeds from The Store directly support the mission of Cohen Center for the Arts.
